With reference to Sir E. Satow's Despatch
No. 316 Confidential of September 22, 1905, in which was
forwarded a copy of the Hankow-Canton Railway Redemption
Loan Agreement, and to my Despatch No. 204 of May 10 last
on the subject of the reversion to state control of all
trunk lines throughout the Empire, I have the honour to
transmit to you herewith copy of a Note from the Ministry
of Communications informing me that the next instalment
of principal and interest on the loan, due on October 6,
will be paid by that Ministry instead of by the Provinces.
The llote adds that the Imperial Bank of
China at Shanghai has been instructed to prepare the neces-
sary funds for payment to the Treasurer of Hongkong against
his receipt.
